Overview
Gerda Satunas embraces the richness and culture of her European heritage. Growing up with a deep passion for ballet and theatre in her home city Vilnius, Lithuania, as a young artist Gerda was surrounded by architects and stain glass artists, embracing an early understanding of form, design and spectacular colour.
Gerda completed studies in Costumes for Performance at the London College of Fashion within the University of Arts of London. This led her to work and live in London, Amsterdam and Spain before arriving in New Zealand. In 2012 Gerda was involved in artistic projects at Madame Tussauds Museum in London where she resourced costumes for exhibitions and television shows such as Downton Abbey and worked with fabrics at the Royal Opera house of London and for Designer Fashion Weeks in New Zealand.
This creative streak transformed into ceramics where Gerda begin to convey her creative expression as 'costumes in clay’.
Gerda's transforms clay into a sculptured conversation of design, colours and natural accents. Renaissance influences are apparent throughout her works.
